WOODSTOCK - A Government program has helped 19 businesses in Oxford County get online to adapt to curbside pickup and online shopping during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over the past year, the Governments of Canada and Ontario have invested over $3.9 million to help Ontario agri-food businesses get online. Local MPP and Minister of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs Ernie Hardeman says locally, 19 businesses have taken advantage of this.
"We're making sure Ontario’s agri-food supply chain stays strong during these challenging times. Connecting our great local businesses here in Oxford with Ontario families who need options for buying food online is another way our government is keeping people safe and businesses open during the COVID-19 pandemic."
So many businesses had to shift gears and pivot when the pandemic first hit. Many had never established an online presence before, because they didn't need to. Over 650 food producers, farmers markets, retailers, garden centres, greenhouses, nurseries and agricultural associations have taken advantage of the program.
Locally, Jakeman's Maple Syrup is one example of a business in Oxford County who had to adapt by getting online.
