The London Elgin Oxford region has the lowest living wage rate in the province at $19.85 per hour.
OXFORD COUNTY - The living wage is now $19.85 per hour for London, Elgin and Oxford.
This is a 3.4 percent increase compared to 2023 when the rate was $18.85 per hour.
The Ontario Living Wage Network released the living wage rates for 2024 on Monday. In an interview with Heart FM last week, Director of Programs and Services Anne Coleman explained the definition of a living wage.
"The living wage is the hourly wage that a worker needs to earn to cover not just their basic expenses (based on a 35-hour work week), but also have a little bit extra to participate in community. With that being said, it's still a very modest wage because it doesn't include savings for retirement or debt repayment. It's meant to be a practical tool for employers to know they're paying their workers a decent wage and a practical tool for reducing poverty through paid work."
The London Elgin Oxford region currently has the lowest living wage in the province, while the Greater Toronto Area has the highest rate at $26.00.
