Oxford's Library Services Outline their proposed $2.9 million budget for 2014
When it comes to the books, Oxford County's Library system isn't going to break the bank.
In the 2014 Oxford Library budget, they're only looking for 0.3% more funding to meet their expenses. It's a total budget of $2.9-million.
It's very much a stay-the-course budget, after some big moves in 2013, including acquiring and renovating the Tillsonburg Library into the Oxford County system.
One change that could be ahead next year is a trial of Sunday service in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg.
Library CEO Lisa Miettinen says it's something users have been asking for. "We're going to take a couple of months in December and January and survey our users in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg and determine the need for Sunday hours. Also ask them if we have Sunday hours, then what are the hours of the week that aren't as popular. We won't be adding additional hours, we'll just be rescheduling the existing hours."
Expect to see that trial roll out around March or April for about three months.
Another new initiative the Library will be embarking on next year, is beginning fundraising, in trying to sell naming opportunities in different areas of the newly renovated Tillsonburg Library. Miettinen says, "There have been dollar figures that have been established by the board for various areas and certainly we would be interested in talking with groups and individuals and try to tailor the naming opportunities to their interests."
The initiative could raise as much as $300,000 that would be invested back into Oxford County Library programming.
