The Woodstock Navy Vets are taking on the Paris Mounties in the first round of the PJHL playoffs. Game 1 is happening on Friday night at Southwood arena with the puck drop slated for 7:45 pm.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Navy Vets will be starting the playoffs on Friday night against Paris.
Woodstock secured home ice advantage for the first round and game 1 is happening at Southwood arena.
Head Coach Darren Young says it is nice to have home ice advantage.
"It is always important to have home ice advantage, we have one of the better crowds in the league, so I do think home ice is important for us. Having said that, home ice is just where your playing, you still have to execute. If you aren't executing, it doesn't matter where you are playing, they are going to come in and beat you, so home ice is great to have, it's a great feeling but again, you have to take advantage of it."
Young is expecting an intense series from both teams. He breaks down what the Navy Vets need to to to come out on top against a tough Mounties team.
"Paris is a really solid team with a lot of kids who work hard and they apply a lot of pressure. We are going to have to good at moving our feet, playing with pace, breaking the puck out well because they do forecheck hard, communication and just be really good around the nets. They have the best goalie in the division, he won the MVP, so we are going to have to get to him, get in front of him, create traffic, create problems, because if he see's the puck, he is probably going to stop it."
Game 2 is happening in Paris on Saturday night.
