INGERSOLL - He was born and raised in Ingersoll, and now he's looking to enter municipal politics.
Ben Lampkin's family has lived in Ingersoll for years, and even after he left for the University of Guelph to earn his degree in economics, he returned to raise his own family in the town.
The upcoming election will be Lampkin's first attempt at becoming a councillor, and he called it an honour and a privilege just to be on the ballot.
"It's a great opportunity to share your vision, and if I'm lucky enough to get in to the other side to apply my energy, I can hopefully affect some change while I'm here."
Lampkin sees the town's efforts on recreation, and he believes that with his passion for the outdoors, especially biking and skiing, he can help address that issue.
"What I want to do is protect some of the trees. I want to have a heritage tree designation program and within the tree program, I'm also looking at planting 1500 trees, that works out to just slightly over one tree a day in the Town of Ingersoll for the time that I'm here, I don't think that will be too hard for us to do but it's a good goal."
Lampkin says he is already in talks with the local schools about adding biking into the curriculum, and that it's important that we acknowledge the heritage of Ingersoll and the land that it rests on.
He also wanted to share that he is hosting an all-candidates meeting tonight (October 6) from 7-10 p.m. at Carnegie Hall.
The municipal election is scheduled for October 24.
