The Lake Lisgar Revitalization Project Committee may need more funds than originally anticipated to finish the project.
TILLSONBURG - Work is progressing on the Lake Lisgar Revitalization Project.
Crews were able to spend five days last week pumping mud out of the north end of the lake, working in cold and windy conditions.
Joan Weston, a member of the Revitalization Committee, says the amount of mud they were able to pump out surprised them when the fifth and final phase began this past November.
"When they started their mud pumping they gained six feet of water; it was only a foot deep and they gained another 6 feet from pumping out the leaves and the silt."
The ultimate goal of the project is to open up the mouth of the creek so more fish can spawn in that area.
Although the committee has received $26,000 in grants for the project in the past, Weston tells Heart FM they need another $20,000 to finish the project.
"We couldn't start at the mouth of the creek because we couldn't get the boat there because it's so shallow. So we're mud pumping our way around to the mouth of the creek so we'll probably get only half as far as we intended."
Crews had to quit pumping on March 14th when ice started to reform. The work is scheduled to continue this coming September.
