City Police teaming with Big Brothers Big Sisters to offer a special camp

WOODSTOCK - Ten area kids are spending the week with the Woodstock Police Service. 

It's part of the Kids N Kops camp in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters. 

Constable Eric Hiiuvain says it's a way to put a friendly face to police.

"Too often parents tell their kids that we're scary and be careful, the police are going to come and lock you up. We want to show a different face. Show that no, we are here to help. People can come, if they need help, they can come and talk to us and we are approachable and that's why we love doing stuff like this."

"It gives an opportunity for us as officers to work with a bunch of youth that are in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. First day as an awareness of what the officers are, what we do in our regular duties, got to see some of our equipment and the cruisers and got to ask questions."

"We do a little bit of learning as to some of our community partners. We are going to be visiting the Woodstock Fire Department, EMS. The afternoons we do something fun and different including going to the art gallery, going to the museum, doing some bowling and we're going to have, on Friday, a day at the beach."

The kids were selected by Big Brothers Big Sisters and range in age from 8-14.
