Several community people were honoured with plaques for supporting the K-9 program in Woodstock today.
WOODSTOCK - Over a dozen people came out to the Canada Outdoor Farm Show Property in Woodstock for K-9 Appreciation day.
Officer Striker and his handler Constable Dan Skillings were on hand to thank everyone who has supported the K-9 program over the years. They also had MNR K-9 team in attendance and they had a demonstration from Officer Striker and the MNR dog Colt. Woodstock Police Chief Bill Renton tells Heart FM the K-9 program has been great for the City.
"The dog is such a compliment to our frontline members, whether it is searching for missing persons, searching for evidence or searching for bad people, I mean he has such an impact. He is such a support to the front line officers, it's an officer safety component that is incredibly enhanced as well as a community safety component."
Renton says the K-9 program has been great for the City and Striker is a great ambassador for the station.
"Anytime we can have that positive interaction with the community it's huge. I mean particularly in the schools, when you watch the children interact with the dog and how much they love the dog, as well as a lot of the seniors and other people in the community, the dog has such a positive profound effect."
