A total of 22 people died last month with COVID-19 in the SWPH region.
SOUTHWESTERN PUBLIC HEALTH - January was the second deadliest month for COVID-19 in the Southwestern Public Health Unit.
A total of 22 people died last month with COVID-19. The deadliest month was in January 2021.
Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says they are seeing signs of the 5th wave slowing down.
"Hospitalizations, new outbreaks and new daily cases are all decreasing, which are positive signs. We have seen an increase week over week of the cases in the ICU."
The number of cases in our region continues to decline, as of today, the health unit has 575 known active cases. The actual number of active cases in the region is definitely higher, as access to testing is restricted.
Currently 25 people are in the hospital with COVID-19, including 6 people in the ICU.
8 of the 16 long term care homes and 6 of the 18 retirement homes in the SWPH region are in active outbreak. They also have outbreaks at the TDMH and the hospital in St. Thomas.
