iTunes CRA Scam Hits Oxford

Oxford resident is out $6,000 after falling victim to the CRA scam.

A resident from Oxford County is out $6,000 after falling victim to the Canada Revenue Agency Scam.

This is the second case where a person has fallen victim to the scam in the region in the past week. The other case happened in Waterford. In this case the victim was contacted by someone pretending to work for the Canada Revenue Agency. They told the victim they owed the government money and if they didn't pay up they would be arrested.

When the victim told them they didn't have the funds to pay up, they were told they could make the payments through iTunes gift cards. The victim was told how to purchase the gift cards by the scammer and made several purchases of $100, totalling $6,000.

Police are reminding the public this is a scam and to please talk to your loved ones about the dangers of these phone scams. The scam artists target land lines and seniors and are very persistent and can sound legitimate.

The Canada Revenue Agency will not call you to demand funds like this and they certainly will never accept gift cards as payment.
