Oxford County Council has approved a new four-way stop north of Embro.

OXFORD COUNTY - A four-way stop will be installed at the intersection of Embro Road (County Road 6) and Road 96.

The intersection has been a hot spot for crashes and Oxford County Council heard a delegation from Nathan Bean about it back in the winter. Council directed staff to assess the intersection not only using the Ontario Traffic Manual, but also with the Ontario Good Roads Association Rural Road Safety Guide.

Warden Marcus Ryan says council looked over their findings yesterday.

"This is the first report we've got that did that and it said that the intersection is fine according to the Ontario Traffic Manual, but according to the Ontario Good Roads Rural Road Safety Policy, it should be a four-way stop."

The report from staff recommended the four-way stop, and council signed off on it during yesterday's meeting.

Meanwhile, there's still a lot of unknowns when it comes to the future of recycling collection in Oxford County. The province has mandated that producers will be responsible for it starting next year and it has hired companies to handle the curbside collection.

Warden Ryan says it's still not clear what the collection schedule will look like yet.

"We have been working really hard with the companies that the province has worked out will do the recycling here, to try to coordinate that stuff as much as possible. Basically, instead of one truck going down your road, there will be two."

Oxford County will be shifting to a six-day collection cycle for garbage and organics, but it has absolutely no control over the collection schedule for recycling.

During his interview with Dan and Marcie this morning, Warden Ryan also provided an update on the Oxford County Administration Building. It experienced a flood a few weeks ago, and staff have been hard at work to make it fully operational again, so visitors can stop by.

County Council was able to hold an in person meeting in Council Chambers yesterday, and Warden Ryan is hoping to have more information to share by the end of the week.
