Interview with Oxford NDP Candidate Matthew Chambers

Heart FM will be profiling all of the candidates for the upcoming Federal Election, starting with the local NDP candidate Matthew Chambers.

INGERSOLL - The NDP candidate for Oxford County will once again be Matthew Chambers.

Chambers lost to incumbent Dave MacKenzie in 2019 finishing second with just over 12,000 votes.

He has been an executive with the Oxford NDP for several years, holding several roles including President.

Chambers says he is running again, because the people of Oxford County deserve better representation in Parliament.

"We need good representation in Oxford, representation that is going to be with us year round, 365 days, not just during the run-up to an election. Representation, we simply have not been getting from Dave MacKenzie and the Conservative party and representation that virtually doesn't exist in Oxford from the Liberals."

Chambers points to two main reasons why people should vote NDP this election.

"Affordable housing, we pay some of the highest housing prices in Ontario, some of the highest in the whole country, outside of a major city. The average price in Woodstock-Ingersoll alone is over $500,000. Another big thing is the expansion of Medicare to include Pharmacare, mental health care, dental care, 1 in 5 Canadians cannot afford the medication their doctors prescribe them, 1 in 3 Canadians have put off dental work because they don't have insurance."

Chambers says these are things the Liberals have promised, but never follow through.

Chambers has lived in Oxford County his entire life, currently living in the Town of Ingersoll and working with the Thames Valley District School Board as a custodian. In 2019, he was a the youngest candidate ever to run for a Federal seat in Oxford County.

The other candidates to announce their intentions to run thus far including incumbent Dave MacKenzie and Liberal candidate Elizabeth Quinto.
