Heart FM continues our profiles of local candidates for the upcoming election today with the incumbent MP and Conservative candidate Dave MacKenzie.
OXFORD COUNTY - Incumbent Conservative MP for Oxford County Dave MacKenzie is looking to serve another term.
MacKenzie has held the seat in Oxford since 2004. Before politics he was a police officer for 30 years in the City of Woodstock and served as the Chief of Police for 10 years. He also served as the Chair of United Way Oxford and the original fundraising Chair for the Build the Vision for the new hospital.
MacKenzie says the Conservatives are the only party with a real plan for Canada.
"What you see going on in Afghanistan is what happens when you have no plan, no plan means a plan of failure. Erin O'Toole has brought forward a plan for the future to get Canadians back to work and get our economy going. I'm just so happy to be part of that, instead of the other parties who have actually all worked together and made it a majority of Liberals, Greens, Bloc and Green, we have stepped aside from it but we haven't hindered Government either. I'm just happy to be there with Erin O'Toole and the plans going forward."
MacKenzie has been the MP for Oxford County for 17 years now. He has held several positions with the Tories during that time and talks about one of the things he is most proud of.
"During the 08 and 09 crisis, my party and myself, we worked hard to get through that period of time and provided funding to a variety of things, including the Cami plant, which allowed it to keep running."
The full interview with MacKenzie will be posted on our web site later this morning.
The only other candidates in Oxford to announce there intention to run include Elizabeth Quinto with the Liberal Party and Mathew Chambers for the NDP.
Heart FM will be doing a profile on all of the local candidates over the next week or two.
