Men and women marched through the streets of Ingersoll last night, to show their support for the Take Back the Night March.
INGERSOLL - Lots of the people took to the streets on Ingersoll last night for the annual Take Back the Night March.
Organizing Committee Member Linda Smith says the annual event shines a light on violence against women and children.
"If we stop doing this it's like putting out that flame that burns showing hope for the future for women to live safe lives and be able to walk alone without having an escort. We should be safe in our communities and safe in our own homes."
The march kicked off at the Fusion Youth Centre yesterday evening.
Smith says they're encouraging more youth to come to support the cause.
"They are our future. We need them to be educated and let both boys and girls know that consent is the right way to go and it's a woman's right to have a say over that happens to her own body."
The Take Back the Night March has been happening for over 25 years in Oxford County; rotating between Ingersoll, Woodstock and Tillsonburg.
Victims of these crimes can reach out to police and Domestic Abuse Services Oxford. DASO can shelter them for up to six weeks and from there they can moved to Ingamo Homes.
