The town of Ingersoll has pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a ministry issued permit, discharging sediment into a storm sewer and failing to notify the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change about the discharge.
INGERSOLL - The town of Ingersoll is facing an $80,000 fine and a $20,000 victim surcharge.
According to the Woodstock Sentinel Review, the town failed to comply with a ministry issued permit, discharged sediment into a storm sewer and failed to notify the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change about the discharge.
This all began when the town hired a general contractor to install water mains, a sanitary sewer and storm sewers on Holcroft Street in August 2013. Later that year the town received a permit allowing them to take up to 50,000 litres of water a day during a 30 day period, but between April and June 2014 the town started taking more than the limited amount.
The article in the Sentinel Review also states water containing sediment was taken from construction excavations and discharged into a storm sewer that flows into Whiting Creek.
The town pleaded guilty on Thursday and now has 180 days to pay the fine.
