Ingersoll Downtown BIA Receives $77,000 Cheque

The Ingersoll Downtown BIA is using funds from the federal government's Tourism Relief Fund to help support local businesses, non-profits, and more.

INGERSOLL - Ontario's Southwest Regional Tourism Organization has presented a cheque for $77,000 to the Ingersoll Downtown BIA.

BIA Coordinator Virginia Armstrong says the money is supporting local businesses, artists, youth organizations, non-profits, and more.

“The Ingersoll Downtown BIA is grateful for the funding provided by the Government of Canada investment, through FedDevOntario and Ontario’s Southwest Regional Tourism Organization, and the impact that it has had on our many local businesses, artists, and industries the past six months, as well as the ongoing economic growth that will be felt by our downtown community in the days to come! The funding has opened a wealth of opportunity for our downtown to flourish through experiential tourism and helps to ease the strain of the recent pandemic.”

Joanne Wolnik, the Executive Director of Ontario’s Southwest Regional Tourism Organization, says the money is coming from the federal government's Tourism Relief Fund and it's being distributed by FedDev Ontario.

“Tourism innovators from across the region have demonstrated the abundance of creativity and opportunity for continued tourism growth within Ontario’s Southwest. Through the Tourism Relief Fund, we’re seeing infrastructure improvements, new experience development, and destination management projects. These projects will extend more travel into the shoulder seasons, prioritize environmental sustainability and inclusivity, and are innovative and bold. We’re pleased to be working with FedDev Ontario to administer the Tourism Relief Fund in Ontario’s Southwest."

Ontario’s Southwest received almost $11 million from FedDev Ontario, in order to distribute to local tourism businesses and organizations.
