The Town of Ingersoll is currently considering three options for the future site of the Multi-Use Recreational Centre.
INGERSOLL - The town of Ingersoll is considering another parcel of land for the future home of the Multi-Use Recreational Centre.
Ingersoll has formally entered into an Option to Purchase a 56 acre parcel of land as a potential site for the Multi-Use Rec Centre after the owner of the land, Kathleen Young, approached the town with the idea.
The land at 99 North Town Line East does present some complications - Ingersoll's Chief Administrative Officer William Tigert says technically that land lies within Zorra Township.
"Obviously Ingersoll's first hope would be that we could enter into some sort of discussion with Zorra where we could see that parcel come into town and become part of the town of Ingersoll but that involves a boundary adjustment so that's one hurdle."
Zorra and Ingersoll will discuss the options at upcoming council meetings.
The potential site has been appraised at $1,000,000, but Young has committed to a $500,000 donation in exchange for future complex naming rights to be negotiated later should the site be chosen.
Tigert says more site evaluation work to be done, and nothing is set in stone.
"We have 5 months and there's a number of conditions within that agreement to try and pursue whether or not we can reasonably ascertain with the number of different approvals we'd have to go through whether this site is feasible."
Two other pieces of land are also being considered at this time - the current arena site and the town owned industrial land on Clark road.
The Multi-Use Recreational Centre will eventually house an ice pad and other items the community has indicated a desire for - such as a walking track and hall space.
