The Town of Ingersoll has received nearly $1 million from the Province
INGERSOLL - The Town of Ingersoll has received nearly one million dollars from the Provincial government as part of their Community Infrastructure Fund.
The Fund helps communities maintain, repair, expand or update vital infrastructure projects such as bridges, roadways, water mains and sewage treatment systems.
The money Ingersoll received will go towards reconstructing the bridge culverts at Catherine and George Streets to help decrease flooding and contamination.
Town Engineer Sandra Lawson says the bridge culvert on George Street has a sanitary sewer line that runs straight through it. "As the bridge culvert started to deteriorate, five years ago it should have been replaced and because the sanitary sewer line was running through it, we were caution about if the bridge ever collapsed, that the sanitary sewer could potentially contaminate the Thames River because Henderson Creek outlets into the Thames River."
Lawson says the replacement -- while in their plan -- had yet to be completed due to a lack of money.
She says the other part of the project is Catherine Street from Thames to Mutual Streets.
"We are doing that in partnership with the County of Oxford. Replacing all of the sewer lines, some water, we are also redoing the hydro, moving it back off the road, putting in curb and gutter and improving the drainage and of course the road's surface."
Lawson says they have been working on the project since last fall with most of the design work completed.
Lawson says this project will be good for residents since a lot of the work being done is in major route to the high school and will greatly improve safety when it's complete.
