Oxford County has it's first 2 cases of Flu confirmed by labs for the 2017-18 season.
OXFORD COUNTY - It's flu season and the first 2 confirmed cases of the flu has arrived in Oxford County.
Elaine Reddick, Program Supervisor in Health Protection for Oxford County Public Health says the flu shot is the best way to avoid getting the flu.
"Our number one message is to get immunized against the flu, it is something you have to do every year because the strains do change all the time and then the influenza shot is based off what is predicted the circulating strains."
With the flu shot being available at a lot of pharmacies and doctor's offices, it is easy to find a place to get immunaized for this year.
She also wants to quash the talks about the shots making people sick.
"That one thing I hear sometimes is people say well I got the flu shot but I got the flu right away and you can't get the flu from the flu shot but it's certainly not uncommon to have other respratory viruses and catch one of those just as you get your flu shot. So that is one one of those things that are out there that is incorrect."
She reminds the public to wash your hands and to cover your cough to help prevent the spread if you have the flu.
