Oxford OPP recently pulled over a vehicle on the 401 near Ingersoll to find a mother in the passenger seat with her 4 month old infant in her lap, instead of a car seat.
INGERSOLL - A grandmother from California was charged recently on the 401 near Ingersoll.
Oxford OPP were responding to several complaints from motorists who noticed a female passenger on the highway who had her infant child in her lap. It turns out the mother was holding the child in the passenger seat, while the grandmother was driving.
The charge of driver while child passenger not properly secured went to the grandmother because she was in care and control of the vehicle.
Any child in a passenger vehicle that has not reached 8-years-old or 80 lbs or 4'9" must be secured in some form of booster-seat or child-seat. Those under 40 lbs will require a child-seat and those under 22lbs will require a rear facing child-seat. Always follow manufactures instructions when sizing and mounting child seats.
