Woodstock Police Service Board see a 1% decrease in incidents from last year
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Services Board released the final numbers of several reports from the year, including the number of incidences that were reported and complaints against the Woodstock Police Service. Deputy Chief Darryl Longworth said the just over 13,000 incidents that were reported for 2014 is down by 1 percent from the previous year.
"That's kind of a consistent trend across the province and what we would like to attribute that to is greater crime prevention initiatives that have had an impact on the community that is driving the need for the police -calls for service down."
Although the number of calls to police are down, Longworth says this could be due to people not reporting them.
"Unfortunately we recognize that there are a lot of people out there that don't call the police for minor things such as theft from vehicles, minor mischiefs and I would encourage people to call because those are still incidences we want to track and gather the information so that we can deploy our resources."
The 2014 Report on Complaint Investigations figures were relatively positive results for the Woodstock Police Service, including two cases of alleged police neglect of duty.
"In these cases I could say they were of the minor nature and they're incidences of those two that you referred to, one has been thoroughly investigated and found to be unsubstantiated the other is still being investigated internally in total we have only received 5 complaints from the public this year."
