Oxford County has launched a survey to better understand the transportation needs throughout the county.
Oxford County is looking for some public feedback as they work on updating the Transportation Master Plan.
The County wants to know if you travel by foot, bike, car, bus, or train as they get set to look at transportation programs and investments for the next 20 years and beyond. An online survey has been created and it only takes a few minutes to fill out. Manager of Engineering Services Melissa Abercrombie says they also have some in person opportunities for you to voice your opinion.
"We have two opportunities this Spring for people to talk to the representatives working on this in person. The first one will be at the Future Oxford Expo happening at the Oxford Auditorium in Woodstock on April 20th; they will be there all day. We are also doing a pop up from 5-8 p.m. at the Tillsonburg Community Centre on Wednesday April 26th and that will kind of give us a starting base with the online survey of what people would like to see."
Abercrombie explains what they hope to do with the information from the survey and public consultation meetings.
"We will examine the information and see if we find ways to address any concerns, for example if they are looking for more inter-connection with bike trails and things like that, how we can enhance that system. We really need the residents to tell us what they want in the future of their transportation system for us to then figure out a plan to how we can roll that out and implement those."
Abercrombie says this Master Plan is going to help shape the way we look at Transportation in Oxford County for the next 20 years.
"Being at the cross roads of major highways means a responsibility to keep people and products moving in and out of the County efficiently. At the same time we know there is increasing demand for more sustainable forms of transportation like walking, cycling, and even electric vehicles. Gathering input from as many members of the community as possible will help us achieve the right balance of the community’s transportation needs for the future."
