A teacher from Woodstock has written a new children's book called "I Stayed Home" it talks about the struggles kids are dealing with and the realization that by staying home, you are saving lives.
WOODSTOCK - A teacher from Woodstock has written a new book for kids to understand why we need to stay home during COVID-19.
Katie Higginbottom is the author and she also teaches at CASS in Woodstock, she wrote the book titled "I Stayed Home" for kids between the ages of 6-10. The story describes a young girl's journey to understanding the positive in staying home during COVID19. Complete with understanding questions and activities.
Higginbottom says the story talks about how busy the young girls life used to be before they started having to stay home.
"She describes her confusion about not being able to see anyone outside of family, she describes missing her old life, then she gets a series of school work assignments that help her to see that the positive is there in staying home. Her favourite lesson that she learns by staying home is that she learns she saving lives, she also learns about essential workers."
Higginbottom says she started this book when the emergency orders were first issued.
"It probably took about a month and one of my best friends Layal Al-Haidary actually did the colouring and images in the book."
