Baseball fans will be flocking to St Marys as the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame inducts baseball legends.
ST MARYS - It promises to be a star studded affair in St. Marys this weekend for the 2017 Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
On Saturday the Hall of Fame will induct Blue Jays legend Roy Halladay, Expos Legend Vladimir Guerrero, and the 2015 Canadian Men's Senior National Team. They will also be inducting Doug Hudlin and Ray Carter from Baseball Canada. Director of Operations Scott Crawford tells Heart FM Guerrero and Halladay are excited for the event.
"So it's going to be special for both Roy and Vladimir, they both have kids who were born in Canada, Vladimir's son is actually in the Blue Jays' farm system right now and one of Roy's sons was born in Canada so it is going to be pretty special for the families to get back to their home country for those kids and both Roy and Vladimir spent most of their MLB careers in Canada."
The weekend will include the Opening Pitch Reception on Thursday in Toronto, the 21st annual Celebrity Golf Classic and banquet on Friday, and the induction ceremony on Saturday.
Things get started on Saturday 10 a.m. with some ball games, a BBQ, and an autograph session after the induction ceremony at 1 p.m. The induction ceremony will be hosted by Mike Wilner who does play by play for the Blue Jays and also hosts Jays Talk after the games. Crawford says they are expecting a lot of people will show up for the ceremony on Saturday.
"We have 32 acre site and four baseball fields, so we will just take one of the ball fields and put up a large ceremonial tent on it, and the ceremony is right on the ball field. It's kind of unique because you can see the bases, the pitching mound, and home plate during the ceremony."
