Homeless Shelter Prepared

Inn Out of the Cold says they are prepared for influx of people during cold snap

WOODSTOCK - Operation Sharing's Inn Out of the Cold homeless shelter has already been successful in placing three people in homes this season. 

Coordinator Paul Arsenault says their numbers continue to decline even with the frigid temperatures of late. "With this extreme cold temperature coming that we have had over the past few days, we expect to have more guests. We can hold up to 20 guests at our shelter so we are prepared."

Arsenault says they are still averaging 5-7 occupants per evening. "We tend to see -- towards the end of the season -- a lot more people coming in. We run until the first week of April and we usually have an influx of more people coming in preparing to save up for first and last month's rent for a place."

Arsenault says it's a very welcoming environment and people should not be ashamed to use their services if they need it. "We give them a meal, warm place to sleep, we watch movies. It's a very relaxed atmosphere and with the support of the churches, the restaurants in town that cater out meals, it's a nice place to be. It's a shame that we have to have a shelter but it's a blessing that there is a place for people to come."

Inn Out of the Cold is operating out of the Old St. Paul's Anglican Church from 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM nightly.
