Early indications are that Canadians didn't go hog wild with their holiday spending. Retail analyst Jim Danahy of CustomerLAB says major retailers are reporting flat Christmas sales this year and low turnouts on Boxing Day. But that isn't the case in Downtown Woodstock, where traffic appears to have been up this holiday shopping season. BIA Chair Dan Deboer tells Heart FM "In general, I think we found holiday traffic was up this year both before Christmas and after. It was probably attributed to a really good promotion "Stop, Shop and Roll", and I think the weather this year. In the past I always would have said we need snow to get people into the Christmas swing of things, but we really noticed our traffic was up and our nighttime traffic was up as well." The BIA does not track overall sales numbers. Deboer owns the Hallmark Shop downtown, where he says sales were up some 45 per cent over last year.
