A handful of students from each of Woodstock's high schools took to the city's main intersection today in protest of losing their extra curricular activities to the ongoing labour battle between teachers and the Ontario government. A group of about 30 students from three of the city's public high schools met up for a protest at Dundas and Huron at around 11AM. A Woodstock Police cruiser sat near the demonstration to make sure the students were protesting peacefully. Teachers have pulled out of supervising clubs and coaching sports teams, because of they're disapproval of Bill 115, which takes away their collective bargaining rights, among other things. Grade 10 student from Huron Park, Kiana says they're not taking sides, they just want people to know they're not happy being caught in the middle. "Pretty much we can't blame anyone for it...the kind of the Bill that's going between the government and the teachers. We're just trying to make this aware to the public that we're pretty upset about what's going on." Grade 9 student from WCI, Danielle, says she's hoping not to miss out on her school's sports. "I was on football but it just ended. What I'm looking forward to is rugby but if this actually goes on until then it will just mess up the seasons." Some of the students we talked today were also concerned that after school help will no longer be available to them.
