The second half of August promises to be hot and sweaty with a return to the above average temperatures we saw in late July in Oxford County.
Meteorologist Geoff Coulson tells Heart FM the second half of the month should consist of lot's of sunshine and warm days.
"August is kind of shaping up very similar to what we saw in the month of July, the first half of the month of July ran a little bit cooler than normal and then in the second half it was a little bit warmer than normal especially with the heat wave we saw towards the end of the month and right now August is following that same pattern as the first half has seen cooler than normal temperatures for this time of year, but the models are indicating that for the second half of the month we are expecting temperatures to bounce back somewhat and be a little bit warmer than normal, so it looks like August could end up overall being around normal temperature wise or maybe even a little bit warmer than normal based on what we are predicting now for the second half."
Coulson adds you will start to see the warm weather this weekend and it is expected to continue right into early September. He also notes we have actually had less severe weather than normal in Southern Ontario. Other than the one crazy day on August 2nd where we had three tornadoes touch down, the summer hasn't produced as much severe weather as normal in our region.
"Generally there is a fair amount of activity with respect to summer severe weather in southwestern Ontario including the Woodstock area, anywhere from late April to early October, we're pretty much half way through the season and while we have had a few active days here and there, overall the severe weather and tornado numbers are lower than normal for this time of year."
