Oxford County Public Health is searching for a dog owner after a child was bit by a bull dog in Tillsonburg.
TILLSONBURG - Oxford County Public Health is searching for a dog owner after a child was bit in Tillsonburg.
The 10 year old girl ran into the large dog at the corner of Pearl St. and Maple Lane on Wednesday night around 9 p.m. The dog was being walked by a man in his 40's and was accompanied by a woman, approximately in her 20's who was walking a Shih Tzu. The child was bit by the man's dog who is described as being possibly a bull dog with a brindle pattern.
Public Health is seeking information about the dog in order to prevent rabies treatment for the victim. If you are the dog owner, or have information about this incident, please contact public health inspector Kristina McCarthy at 519-539-9800, extension 3521.
Rabies is a fatal disease.
To keep your pets and family rabies-free:
· Make sure your pet vaccinations are up to date.
· Keep your pets indoors at night.
· Teach children to stay away from wild animals and strange dogs and cats.
· Supervise children around pets.
· Always ask permission from a pet owner before trying to pet an animal.
· Do not attempt to touch or feed wild animals.
