Do wind turbines impact human health? Health Canada will attempt to answer the questions that has plagued the turbine industry in recent years. Rural communities in southern Ontario have also been raising the issue as they oppose turbines moving into their areas. These issues have been the subject of several public meetings in Norwich and Woodstock with a turbine proposal still pending for Gunn's Hill Road. Another is pending in the Innerkip area. Federal Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq says the research was prompted by concerns from residents living near wind farms about possible health problems related to low-frequency noise from the turbines. The study will initially focus on residents in 2,000 dwellings selected from eight to 12 wind-turbine installations across Canada. Researchers will assess residents' blood pressure and take other physical measurements, conduct in-person interviews, and measure noise levels both inside and outside some homes. Results of the research are expected to be published in 2014.
