Perhaps the fourth time will be a charm? The Hawkins-Gignac Act is being tabled for the fourth time. After passing the first and second readings three times, Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman hopes the process will be quick this time round. "Because we're ready, because it's passed second reading three times already, that we can find a slot early on in the debate so we could get it ready to be passed again for third reading as quickly as possible," said Hardeman. Hardeman's private member's bill aims to make carbon monoxide detectors mandatory in all homes. If it fails, Hardeman says he won't stop trying. "We're hopeful to be successful this time, but I'm not a person to give up on a job that needs doing," he said. But Hardeman is still impressed with the amount of people who have realized the importance of carbon monoxide detectors. He's glad it has created greater awareness.
