Sprinklers are being credited with keeping a fire at Harvan Engineering from turning into a major incident.
WOODSTOCK - Harvan Engineering's sprinklers are being hailed as heroes after a blaze broke out yesterday.
When a fire broke out at a piece of equipment used by the Jack Ross Avenue business, the sprinklers activated and managed to not only quell the blaze, but extinguish it as well. Fire Prevention Officer with the Woodstock Fire Department Jeff Slager says when the Fire Department arrived yesterday afternoon, the fire had already been extinguished. "Upon arrival, fortunately the sprinkler system within the building had activated and prevented the fire from spreading beyond the piece of equipment where it started. So it was a great save for the building based on them having provided and maintained their sprinkler system within the building there."
Slager adds the effectiveness of the sprinklers prevented what could have been a catastrophe.
Although structural damage was minimized, the piece of equipment where the fire started has been completely devastated. Unfortunately this one piece of equipment is estimated to be worth around half a million dollars.
Because of the cost of that one piece of equipment, the Ontario Fire Marshal was called, but the Fire Marshal will not be investigating the incident further.
No injuries were reported.
