Annual survey finds concerns about the impact the Ontario Pension Plan could have on local businesses.
OXFORD COUNTY - Ernie Hardeman's annual business survey revealed major concerns about the impact of the proposed provincial pension plan on local businesses.
Hardeman says the survey goes out every year in hopes of getting a feel for how businesses are doing in the area.
"In this year's, it was rather surprising to see such a strong response to the Ontario Pension Plan and how it's going to impact small business in Ontario."
If implemented, it would require companies to contribute as much as 1.9 percent of their payroll into the program.
Hardeman says he was expecting some opposition from local businesses.
"Normally in our surveys too, the issues of government red tape and bureaucracy ranks number one and of course it still ranks very high but it took second place to the Ontario Pension Plan."
Hardeman says the government has to be aware of the impact these proposals would have on their businesses and the fact that it may cost jobs.
Hardeman says the survey also showed 94 percent of businesses said they had been impacted by the increasing cost of hydro.
