Families in the county will have until the 15th of May to apply for the Universal Child Care Benefit.
OXFORD COUNTY - Families in Oxford County have until May 15th to apply for the enhanced Universal Child Benefit if they want to get their cheques in time for the summer. The Harper government has extended the application deadline so more families can receive the UCCB cheque in July.
Oxford MP Dave McKenzie tells Heart FM this is something every family should take advantage of and they wanted to extend the deadline so families can have some extra money for the summer. The majority of families with children, approximately 3.8 million, are known and will automatically receive the enhanced UCCB or be contacted by the Government to confirm their information.
However an estimated 200,000 families in Canada will miss out on the missing this year because they didn't apply. Under the proposed enhancements to the UCCB, families would receive almost $2,000 per year for each child under 6 and $720 per year for each child aged 6 through 17.
If your family is not currently receiving the UCCB, has never received the UCCB, or has never applied for the Canada Child Tax Benefit and you still have children under 18 in your care, please go to www.canada.ca/taxsavings to find out how you can apply.
