City Council is asking residents of the "Friendly City" to live up to that name and help each other out when the snow flies.
Woodstock City Council wants everyone to be a "Good Neighbour" this winter.
Very soon the snow will start flying, and residents in Oxford County will need to break out the shovels. Council is asking the public to look out for each other, and work together as neighbours to keep the sidewalks clear. Councillor Jerry Acchione has already received many calls in regards to this issue, "The city is going to try to clear as much as they can. So we are asking do your own sidewalk and help your neighbours out. The next step of course is enacting a by-law which isn't ideal for an 80 year old grandmother expected to clean her driveway, so we are asking the neighbours to be sure to help out everyone so it isn't an issue."
Council is going to try this system and Acchione knows this is a hot topic among residents of Woodstock. "Well I have had a lot of people call, a lot of messages, almost daily it is a problem every single year. This is just kind of our first step to try to acknowledge that but also to make everyone aware that we do expect the general public's help. There are concerns of course - a few people are quite adamant on a by-law, on charging."
"By-laws are all complaint based so it would only happen if a neighbour called and complained," Acchione says. "So instead we are asking that same neighbour that would call and complain, why don't you give them a hand, clean it off when you can before we get into any charges."
