The Laurier Golden Hawks will face the Guelph Gryphons in an OUA exhibition game at Southwood Arena this Saturday. All of the proceeds will be going to United Way Oxford and the Woodstock Wildcats.
WOODSTOCK - Southwood Arena will have the honour of hosting an Ontario University Athletics exhibition game between the Laurier Golden Hawks and the Guelph Gryphons.
The game will take place this weekend on Saturday October 1st, and its main purpose is for charity, with the proceeds supporting the Woodstock Wildcats Girls Hockey Association and United Way Oxford.
Gates open at 6:45 p.m., one hour before puck drop, and tickets can be purchased online or at the door. There will be a 50/50 draw, door prizes, and even a couple of local faces to cheer for in the main event.
Rob McKinlay is the current president of United Way Oxford and is also on the Woodstock Wildcats Board of Directors. He says the game came about from one of the player development coaches in the Wildcats organization, Kelly Paton. She is the head coach of the Golden Hawks and proposed the idea of the game before COVID.
McKinlay says Laurier is effectively the home team, but there are also a couple of Gryphons that came from the Woodstock pipeline as well.
"We're really excited for this event. We are hoping to inspire our young players to see where they can go with women's hockey."
