General Motors says they will ramp up production in Mexico if the walkout is not called off soon.
INGERSOLL - General Motors has threatened to pack up and move productions of the Chevy Equinox to Mexico if a deal is not reached soon.
Unifor Leader Jerry Dias told Reuters today that GM officials warned them that they would start to wind down production in Ingersoll if a deal is not reached. According to Dias GM has said they will ramp up production in Mexico at two plants that build the Equinox and a similar model.
The Equinox has been the CAMI's only vehicle since General Motors moved production of the Terrain to Mexico earlier this year. That move resulted in about 500 job losses.
Unifor Local 88 says the biggest reason behind the walk out was job security. They are looking for an assurance from GM that they will keep building the Equinox in Ingersoll.
