Kristian Aquilina says GM is dedicated to supporting its people and working with its partners.
INGERSOLL - General Motors (GM) has been designing, engineering and building vehicles in Canada for over 100 years and it would like to keep doing so.
That was one of the messages included in a recent statement from Kristian Aquilina, the President and Managing Director of GM Canada.
He said CAMI Ingersoll is currently being assessed for future opportunities after the automaker pulled the plug on the production of the BrightDrop electric delivery vehicle last week. About 1,200 people work at CAMI and those jobs hang in the balance as talks continue between GM, Unifor, and the provincial and federal governments to find the next path forward.
Aquilina said those complex talks could take time, but the automaker is dedicated to supporting its people and working with its partners.

Cooperation between GM, Unifor and the Canadian and Ontario Governments is the best path towards our shared goal of a strong, competitive and sustainable Canadian auto sector. These are complex discussions, and we need to invest the time necessary for collaboration that will deliver better outcomes for our people, our communities and our customers.
GM is committed to Canada. For more than 100 years, GM has been designing, engineering and building vehicles here, and we intend to keep doing so."
Industry Minister Melanie Joly met with representatives from GM, Unifor and the Ontario government on October 23rd. She instructed the automaker to provide an update on the plan for CAMI in 15 days.
