Prom Season is almost here which means expensive dresses. Because of the cost of prom or graduation, The Woodstock Police Service and Ingersoll OPP created All Dressed Up.
OXFORD COUNTY - Prom Season is almost here, and with it comes the inevitable expenditures on makeup, shoes, and dresses which alone can cost over $600.
Due to this trend of spending an arm and a leg for the perfect night, Woodstock Police Service and Ingersoll OPP created All Dressed Up, a donation service for new or gently used dresses and other accessories for girls who are looking to find the perfect dress for Prom or Graduation but can't spend a large amount on a dress.
Woodstock Police Service's Detective Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says the event wouldn't be possible without the community's help.
"All Dressed Up is really a huge community partnership where partners have brought together all kinds of things from hair stylists, to manicures, to Prom and Grad dresses, shoes, jewellery, dry cleaning, transportation, so you can imagine there are so many community partners that fund this free program and its so every young lady can go to Prom and l like a Princess."
Ingersoll OPP partnered with the Woodstock Police Service 12 years ago to bring the event to the community and bring in donations for the girls.
They are also always looking for donations for the event, with things like:
- gently used modern dresses or brand new dresses
- new makeup
- new or newer jewellery
- new or gently used shoes
All of the items can be donated to The Woodstock Police Station and the Tillsonburg or Ingersoll OPP detachments.
VanLeeuwen explains how the event is run and how you can register for it.
"Every school in Oxford County has been notified, they have been given a letter with all of the information on it, anyone who would want the information whether you're a parent or are going to school then contact your principals or teachers and they should have this information. you need to register online and we have a Gmail account set up, that's alldressedupoxford@gmail.com you can send emails to that account and Michelle Murphy is monitoring that account and will answer any questions people have. the actual event is a one time event we set up at Ingersoll Senior Centre on Ingersoll street, and we essentially set up a mall, so between 4 PM and 830 PM the girls will be set up with a personal shopper and that's how it all comes together."
All Dressed Up will be happening on Thursday March 26th in Ingersoll at the Ingersoll Senior Centre, alterations can be done by their voluntary seamstress and the best part is that everything is free.
