Canada Day is around the corner and the roads could fill up as people think of taking vacations.
OXFORD COUNTY - As Canada Day approaches, people might be taking a vacation or traveling.
Roads could become busy as motorists are looking to enjoy a long weekend. Sergeant Ed Sanchuck of the West Region OPP posted on social media this message for everyone on the road this weekend.
"Make sure that you always wear your seat belt. Everybody in that vehicle should have their seat belt on. Put the distractions away, get a text message or phone call. Let your passenger answer that cell phone. Don't put yourself, innocent motorists, and pedestrians and people in your vehicle at risk."
Sanchuck goes on to say that safety on the road is everyone's responsibility, so make sure you are doing your part to keep the roads safe.
"If we take out the big four equation, we should be able to get to reward safely, but more importantly, we should be get home safely to our families. We're having a police officer knocking on someone's door saying the loved ones been seriously injured or killed as a result of a provable crash."
Again, those big four are impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving (including speeding), and not wearing a seatbelt.
