The 13th annual event raised $78,822 for Mother's With a Heart for Ethiopia.
WOODSTOCK - That's close to $80,000 for Mother's With a Heart for Ethiopia.
The grassroots organization hosted the 13th annual Gem's and Java fundraiser at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church Saturday afternoon, with 160 people in attendance.
Founder Shelley Green says the event brought in a total of $78,822 at the end of the day.
"We cannot change the world but when we choose to donate, to give of our time, we can change the world for one - or for a few. We are so thankful for all the guests who donated at Gems & Java to embrace the power of one."
All of the money will go towards projects overseas including the Girls Gotta Run, the WRAPS program, prolapsed uterus surgeries, and Tesfa's Shelter.
Green says it costs $1,000 to support one child at Tesfa's Shelter for an entire year, and 94 children live there.
"Every one of the 94 children know they have a huge loving group of donors, sponsors, and volunteers who care about them very much. The children love Canada because they associate Canada with generosity, love, and care."
Those who attended Gems and Java not only got to learn about the different projects overseas, but also got to check out the silent auction, the Bags and Baubles Boutique, and the Ethiopian Merkato.
