The province is going to cut the gas tax by 5.7 cents per litre and the fuel tax by 5.3 per litre, starting tomorrow and lasting until December 31st.
ONTARIO - If you need to fill up your gas tank ahead of the Canada Day long weekend, you should try to hold off for one more day.
The Ford Government is going to cut the gas tax by 5.7 cents per litre and the fuel tax by 5.3 cents per litre starting July 1st, 2022. This will remain in place until December 31st, 2022.
The province says both the gas tax rate and the fuel tax rate will drop to 9 cents per litre. The current gas tax rate is 14.7 cents per litre and the current fuel tax rate is 14.3 cents per litre.
The province says the average household will save about $465 this year when also taking the removal of license plate renewal fees into consideration. The Ford Government is also encouraging the federal government to reduce the carbon tax to help Ontarians save even more money at the gas pumps.
If you can wait until tomorrow to fill up, analyst Dan McTeague of Canadians for Affordable Energy says prices throughout most of the province will drop by 11 cents a litre tomorrow.
