Gas prices could be going up 14 cents a litre in Ontario and Quebec.
ONTARIO - You might want to fill up your gas tank sooner rather than later.
Dan McTeague, the President of Canadians for Affordable Energy, recently told CP24 that gas prices will be going up 14 cents a litre in Ontario and Quebec overnight Thursday, referencing the switch to summer gas.
Patrick De Haan, the Head of Petroleum Analysis for GasBuddy, says this makes sense.
"Areas like Ontario, the Maritimes, and Quebec may see prices increasing notably as we've now made the final step in this transition to summer gasoline."
Both Canada and the United States switch to summer gas to reduce air pollution levels during the vacation season. Canada usually makes the transition to summer gas in the spring, and back to winter gas in mid-September.
De Haan explains why winter gas is cheaper than summer gas.
"Butane is very cheap and it's used in winter gasoline, but with the switch to summer much of that cheap butane comes out and unfortunately more expensive blending components are required to meet those air requirements."
If you're looking to fill up in Woodstock today, the cheapest spot to get gas at the moment is the 7-Eleven on Huron Street at 158.6 per litre. That was according to GasBuddy.com as of 10:30 a.m.
