A new fund will help individuals, businesses, and partnerships finance sustainability projects in Oxford.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County council has approved a new fund which will help people in the community work towards sustainability.
Individuals, businesses, entrepreneurs, and partnerships will be able to apply for loans or grants through the Future Oxford Legacy Fund if they have ideas on how help the county reach targets in the Future Oxford Sustainability Plan.
Warden David Mayberry says this fund will give members of the community more power if they want to make a difference.
"County Council believes in the value of our community sustainability plan. We're convinced that it's not something that government should always do, but in fact the individual people in the county can do these kinds of things and we want to be able to empower them."
Mayberry adds the Oxford Small Business Support Centre will be distributing the money.
"They sit around and make decisions on what projects make sense and what doesn't so it's a natural fit. It takes it out of the political hands and puts it in a more business entrepreneurial type focus."
The Future Oxford Legacy Fund has a provision of $340,000. The application process will open up in December and more information will become available on the Future Oxford website.
