Current Ingersoll Deputy Mayor Fred Freeman has filed for reelection
A passion for the community made the decision to run for reelection an easy one for Fred Freeman.
The current Ingersoll Deputy Mayor filed his papers earlier in the month.
Freeman says he simply loves politics.
"I feel I am accountable to the community because I am always there at anyone's beck and call and that includes staff of course, supporting staff which is a big part of it."
The proposed landfill and the town's financial picture are among the top issues he says are facing Ingersoll in the years ahead but he would like to see the town grow in three ways as well.
"Industrial obviously. We don't have a lot of land, and we have about 88 acres right on the 401 that we would obviously love to have some new industry come. Residential, if you have a lot of industry and jobs then the residential will come, but we are on the doorstep of Woodstock and London so a lot of people do commute back and forth. Then I feel if you are strong in industrial and residential then commercial basically fills itself in."
Freeman says being approachable and his experience on various committees over the years help to make him a good fit for the job.
"I work very hard at being a member of this council. Always have. I take it very serious. I've been involved in the Youth Centre, helping to create the Youth Centre, and keeping it active. I've been on the Board of Directors for the Seniors Centre for eleven years. The new Safe Cycling Committee here in town, I was instrumental in getting that started. That and making sure I'm speaking out for and against issues when it comes to budgeting or any policies that come before the town."
Freeman is the first person to file papers for the Deputy Mayor position.
