Fraudsters Posing as Woodstock Fire Department Via Text Message

The Woodstock Fire Department has received reports of people getting text messages from their Station 1 phone number. The text includes a suspicious link.

WOODSTOCK - If you get a text from the Woodstock Fire Department's phone number asking you to click a link... don't do it!

The Woodstock Fire Department is warning the public about a new scam, where the fraudsters are pretending to be with the department. The text comes from the fire department's Station 1 phone number, which is 519-537-3412.

Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods says they found out about the scam last night.

"We definitely do not communicate through text message and we would not ask you to click a link. So this is definitely a well orchestrated scam."

Woods says the fire department will call you if they need to get ahold of you, or they will send an e-mail.

"Any e-mail that would be coming from the Woodstock Fire Department would be coming from the City of Woodstock. We wouldn't be asking you to click a link in any way, shape, or form unless we have had a communication with you prior and we're sending you forms that you need to fill out."

When in doubt, you can always call the fire department just to make sure.

If you get one of these suspicious text messages, Woods says you should call Woodstock Police and notify the fire department.
