Food Basics to Host Food Drive for Community Free Table

A food drive for the Community Free Table will be taking place in the Woodstock Food Basics parking lot tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

WOODSTOCK - It has been five years since the Community Free Table first started in Woodstock.

Founder Chris Eby says it all began back in 2018, when they used to help about 20 people. He says the need has only grown since then.

"We're now up to 120 people that we give some kind of meal or lunch to on Saturday's from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We also deliver to some of the encampments where people have no place to live."

A food drive in support of the Community Free Table will be taking place in the Food Basics parking lot tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Eby hopes to see everyone there.

"Come into Food Basics, do some grocery shopping in the store, and buy something to donate! You can also stop by and throw in a dollar or two to donate, grab a hotdog, and come say hi to us."

Food and cash donations will be accepted for the cause. Those who stop by will also be able to enjoy a hotdog and grab a coffee.

Eby would like to thank all of the sponsors for making this food drive possible. This includes Food Basics for hosting the drive and providing the hotdogs and drinks, Andersons GM for donating a vehicle to load all of the donations into, Starbucks for providing the coffee, and Blue Cow Milk delivery for supplying all of the cream.

The last food drive for the Community Free Table raised about $500 worth of donations, and Eby is hoping for a similar result tomorrow.
