LPRCA issues early notice of potential flooding
TILLSONBURG - The Long Point Region Conservation Authority has issued a Flood Outlook for all areas within the watershed including Norwich and Tillsonburg.
Officials are serving the early notice for potential flooding based on the forecast warm weather and accumulated snow pack.
Residents are being asked to stay away from ditches, streams, rivers and ponds as the combination of slippery banks and cold, fast-flowing water is dangerous.
Landowners are also advised to make sure dams, culverts and catchbasins are free from debris and functioning properly.
They are also predicting water levels to remain high throughout next week.
The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority has issued a Water Safety Bulletin ahead of the rain and snow melt expected over the next few days.
The UTRCA expects water levels in streams and rivers to rise late in the weekend and into early next week, but does not anticipate significant flooding at this time.
Current weather forecasts are predicting temperatures to rise above freezing over the weekend and into next week, along with an estimated 20-40 mm of rain between Saturday and Monday.
Residents are reminded to use extreme caution near all watercourses. Many streams and ditches are hidden by snow, stream banks are slippery, and water is very cold. Parents are reminded to keep children and pets away from watercourses.
