NEW HAMBURG/AYR - The Grand River Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning for New Hamburg, Ayr, Waldemar and Grand Valley.
The entire watershed remains under a flood watch. Flows in the Nith River through New Hamburg and Ayr are expected to reach Flood Warning Zone 1 on Thursday based on the current forecast. Affected residents have been notified.
The warm temperatures mixed with the potential for 10-15 mm of rain tomorrow has prompted the flood warning.
Local waterways continue to move extremely fast with cold water. Runoff is expected to cause flooding in all areas that normally experience spring flooding.
Ice on local waterways is extremely unstable and will break up and shift during this event, increasing the risk of flooding in areas prone to ice jams.
