The last time the Woodstock Fairgrounds hosted Flat Track Racing, we were watching Full House on our TV and played with pogs. Flat Track Racing Canada is making a comeback Saturday with the Woodstock Half Mile Motorcycle Races; something the Friendly City hasn't seen since the mid-90's. The races kick off with youth heats at 3:15 p.m.. where Woodstock's own Boyd Deadman will be hitting the track. Boyd, who is now 8 year-old has been racing for three years and tells Heart FM that "leaning the bike over and sliding it" is his favourite aspects of racing. Boyd races at the Paris Speedway and Welland 1/4 Mile where he currently holds the number one position for the 50cc chain KTM class in Flat Track Canada Championship Series and local grassroots Paris Speedway Series. He is placed third in 65cc class. His mother Leanne is encouraging the public to come and check out the fun and excitement. "It's so entertaining and it's so much fun. It's the anticipation, you see people lined up and then the light goes and the bikes go and usually that first corner is the make or break; they're all in a pack in the first corner so it's a fight for the lead and then it can sometimes get pretty intense when the guys get bunched up". Tickets for the event are available at the gate for $15; kids 10 and under are free. Practice runs begin at 1:45 p.m.. A full list of race times can be found here.
